The Festival of Hospitality was launched in 2020 as an initiative of the Archdiocese of Turin’s Pastoral Care for Migrants to strengthen its work on reflection and raising awareness. It is an opportunity to pause and reflect on the deeper meanings of the verb “to welcome”, on the concept of hospitality, and on the obstacles and challenges involved in building inclusive and cohesive communities.
The theme of the sixth edition of the Turin Festival of Hospitality is “Gentleness is disarming”. Gentleness is a force capable of breaking the cycle of violence and conflict. It is not submission, nor is it silence: rather, it is the courageous choice not to respond to violence with more violence. It is a perspective that invites us to reflect on how to defuse the most aggressive dynamics, while continuing to believe in dialogue and easing tensions, and remaining present, active, responsible and alive.
